D&L Toy Trains has over 50 years of experience with toy trains and is a family owned and operated business.

Our father Ed started the business in 1988, who had been collecting toy trains since he was a young boy in the 1960’s. He had noticed that there were no hobby shops around that could properly repair or service toy trains, so he started repairing his own trains, soon after much trial and error our father began servicing toy trains for others and soon found employment at a local hobby shop where he worked for many years, until 1988 when we became a Lionel Authorized Service Station working out of our basement.

The Business stating to grow quickly, and when HO Scale started to become more popular we continued to expand the variety of products offered to the model railroad community. This included trains, and their myriad accessories so that the model railroader could build a town with homes, apartment houses, sky scrapers, parks, trees, rolling lawns, police and fire departments, jails, city halls, big towns, bigger cities, lakes, mountains, prairies, bridges, tunnels and national monuments!

As the business expanded we moved to Darien Center NY and built a shop next to our home with plenty of land for future growth. By 1994 we were carrying a large selection of Lionel products, and later started to carry MTH and K-Line trains. When there was a high demand for train layouts in 2007 we started selling die cast vehicles, construction equipment and serinery items.

In 2014 we started selling a large line of Woodland Secnics, First Gear and offering HO and N gauge train products.Throughout the years D&L Toy Trains established itself as the Model Train Headquarters for all model train enthusiasts, young and old.

What We Do Best

Tearing down and fixing model trains is a big part of what we do here. we stock over 130,000 different parts, stored in countless bins on site. That’s because, we have repaired thousands of locomotives, freight and passenger cars, and other products that have come in throughout the years, and and new parts needed is purchased from Lionel’s manufacturer.

There’s no way to list all the different kinds of problems that show up in here, the most common are broken smoke units on locomotives, dysfunctional motors, and burned out light bulbs. And That’s why the our shop has shelves full of new and mint-condition shells and chassis that can be used to make the problem product like new again.
